God didn’t just choose a people to be His special people, He chose a special man and his wife, Abram and Sarai, and created a people from them about 3,900 years ago. This began with Abraham and Sarah’s one son, Isaac, and expanded then to the twin sons born to Isaac and Rebekah, Esau and Jacob, with Jacob being chosen. And then the family expanded to 12 sons of Jacob, who became the founding fathers of the 12 Tribes of Israel, Jacob’s new name. A new nation of people was created.

The people of Israel are not just a chosen people; they are a people literally created to be God’s initial human family! And against all odds, issues and persecutions, they have survived until today even if expeled from their native land for long peroeds of time. They are still alive and once again many of them are in their homeland, albeit with continuous struggles with the other peoples of the region. While they are brave and resourceful, they are not always wise. They are still living outside of the New Covenant that God has established through Jesus and lacking the full help and wisdom they need.

This New Covenant was instituted by God to expand His human family through a descendant of both Jacob/Israel and King David, Jesus, so that millions, billions from all over the world, Jews and Gentiles, could enter that expanded family by faith! And so we are today. The ancient people created by God and the new people brought close to God. And we are all struggling to live aright in this 21st century world.
